SPONSORS OF THE 2004
SCREEN SOUND AWARDS

The 7th Annual Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards were held on Friday the 1st October 2004 at the Wharf Theatre Restaurant, Pier 4 The Rocks, Sydney.

One hundred guests enjoyed an entertaining night with host VICTORIA NICHOLLS being as funny as ever, voice man ROBBIE McGREGOR rolling his tongue around the many and varied names and nominations and our house band "THE CATFISH CLUB" providing us with very fine music and entertainment.

Once again ENCORE provided four door prizes which were picked by the now famous FUDGE LOTTO, thank you Jacqui. Everyone agreed the night was as entertaining as ever and there were many smiles amongst the winners.

Once again the sponsors have to be thanked because without them there would be no awards night, so thank you very much our dear sponsors.

So to the winners. First up was the "Student Encouragement award" sponsored by THE SERGERY. We had two student winners and two prizes, firstly MAX CRAWFORD won the Sound Recording prize, $1000 worth of hire from AUDIO SOUND CENTRE, thank you NICK and all the guys at ASC/JOHN BARRY. We took a break at this point for another smoko and then it was back to the dinner table for desert and coffee, oh and it was time for those long- winded chats. A video of a 1983 training film was shown, produced by the Film School and staring our next award winner:

The Syd Butterworth Lifetime Achievement Award. ROSS LINTON.

Ross entertained us with his thoughts on retirement, being an "Old Analogue Man" and his new venture, "Rosco's Pizzeria" situated in Eden, NSW. Ross extended an invitation for anyone to drop in when passing through Eden and try one of his pizzas.

Finally to the final award of the evening, one that everyone had been waiting for:

Feature Film Soundtrack of the Year.
Sponsor: DOLBY.

From all the films entered this year the judges decided on what they thought was the best overall soundtrack. SOMERSAULT.

And that was it for another year, "The Catfish Club" played out the rest of the evening until it was time to pack up and move on to the bar at Pier One, oh what a night.

I would like to thank Tony Murtagh for his valuable help in preparing the AV show, David Glasser for his constant emailing to all the members, Phil Purcell for his web-meister duties and last but not least Sue Scott for her wonderful help with all the bookings and seating arrangements. I would also like to thank Margot, my partner in life for putting up with all the hours I spent getting this night together, Annabel Moeller our photographer, Robbie McGregor for his brilliant voice-over work and Victoria Nicholls our host, thank's to you all.
